Whew! Where do I begin? This was one whirlwind series featuring two cute guys as twins in an olden day setting. From the outset, this was a tale about female-angst gone wrong. We've got Yau Yue, the powerful feminist-freak princess who wants to avenge her old boyfriend for dumping her. She separates the pair of twins her boyfriend is supposed to take care of and makes them want to kill each other. This brother-killing-brother business is supposed to make her ex-boyfriend regret he ever bothered her. Okay, with all that said, I suppose the director had a lot to work with. But he (or she) didn't make full use of it. The plot moved pretty slowly, despite having Jimmy Lin and Alec Su there in every other scene. The one good thing is that whenever I felt like falling asleep, there would be some progressive action and it would keep me awake again. Overall, this was one series filled with fake but action-packed fighting, petty side stories, hideous villains, and most importantly Alec Su. :)

Lucky Chen De Rong!

Characters:
~ Hua Wu Que (Alec Su): I give mad props to Alec for wearing the long hair. As fake and ugly as it was, he made the best out of it. In other words, he didn't look half bad. Acting-wise, Alec did a good job of portraying Hua Wu Que as this stone-cold slave to his two aunts. Thank God he came out of his shell.
~ Xiao Yu Ar (Jimmy Lin): I had absolutely no idea who was Jimmy Lin until I saw this series. (Sorry Jimmy fans). My rating after watching him: this guy is 100% teenybopper material. At first, I didn't like him too much. I thought he tried a little too hard to be the smart-aleck, wise-cracking, comedian in the series. He was stealing the show from Alec! But then he falls off a cliff, becomes a limp, and experiences the loss of his family. I felt sorry for the poor guy. By the end of the series, he showed he could put on a straight face, and I gave him my respect.
~ Tie Shing Lan (Chen De Rong): All I can say is: LUCKY CHEN DE RONG! She had both guys swooning over her! And dang it, she kisses the better one too. I've watched Chen De Rong for a long time. Obviously, she's older than Hua Wu Que. Anybody ever seen "Yi Lian You Meng?" In it, Chen De Rong was a pair with Lin Rei Yang, who also happens to play the older uncle Ye Nan Tian in this series. It's funny how Chen De Rong is still taking on these little helpless-girl roles that are way too young for her. Still, she cries very easily, and I suppose that always gets audience approval.
~ Xiao La Jiao (Dunno the name of this Cantonese actress): Whoever she is, she did a good job. She was cute without getting too annoying, even though she did nag Xiao Yu Ar endlessly. Hard work pays off. She gets the guy in the end. I don't know too much about this actress though. But she looks familiar - Wasn't she in "Dejavu" with Zhao Wei?

The second princess

On a final note ~
Two other things about this series worth mentioning:
1) The sympathy-magnet second princess. She was such a sweetie (not to mention the SANE sister)! Always rescuing Hua Wu Que and Tie Shing Lan from all sorts of ups and downs. And the thanks she gets? (Stop reading now if you don't want a spoiler). She gets blasted by her freak of an older sister! Then again, everybody pretty much dies in this series except for the four main characters.
2) The theme song! "Kuai Le Zhi Shang" is awesome! This is one reason why Jimmy Lin is cool - he sings this amazingly addictive little jingle. Anybody who knows the lyrics of this song, please please send it to me. ( My email is avcorner2000@yahoo.com). It's such a pain when you like a song but can't sing along with it. "Hey ya oh hey ya...."
